Job Seeker Program
Background
The truth is most online job applications are ignored by recruiters. Less than two percent of people ever get an interview. Meanwhile, referrals jump straight to the top of the pile. So, getting into a company often comes down to three scenarios:
You already know someone at the company that can refer you.
You know someone who knows someone at the company that can refer you.
You don’t know anyone at all at the company that can refer you.
Here’s how the job seeker process helps:
Problem: People often overlook the power of their network and second-degree connections and approaching weaker ties can feel intimidating.
Solution: First identify your hidden connections and craft a forwardable email to get introduced to someone relevant to your job search. Having someone vouch for you goes a long way in the job search process. And your “weak ties” are more likely to know something or someone you don't and extend your network even further vs your closest acquaintances (source Tipping Point).
Why this process works:
Startup founders face a similar challenge when fundraising, and they’ve developed effective methods to generate introductions to top venture capital firms and angel investors. Founders use a “forwardable” email approach to make intros easily and raise millions of dollars for their companies. I’ve taken their fundraising tactics and applied them to the job search process for my own career coaching clients and have seen successful outcomes.
